In the Garden
Correction: When cutting your Dresden Petals, place the template on your fabric with the center of the petal running on the lengthwise grain as pictured below. It will also be wise to staystitch the sides of your Dresden Petal. I had a little trouble with all the bias's in my quilt and have been advised this will alleviate these issues. This will require additional Dresden Petal fabric. You will need 2/3 yard for Scallop Shadow and a minimum of 4 1/2 yards for the petals and the 20" center. I'd recommend 5 1/4 to 5 1/2 total for petals, center, and scallop shadow, this will allow for any shrinkage.

I also recommend that when you place your dresden on the background fabric, position it so January and July are centered over the background seam. This will put your dresden on the lengthwise grain of the background fabric. Also, I recommend that you do not trim away the quilt background from behind the dresden. It will help stabilize your qult. I did trim it away and had a little sagging of my quilt after machine quilting as a result. I believe it had to do with all the bias' in the Dresden Petals. Also. I am told that there is a lengthwise and crosswise grain to your batting. I recommend you position your batting so the lengthwise grain runs from the top to the bottom of your quilt, January to July.

The very first item you cut at the top left of page 1 is item "A", a 20 1/2" square. This should actually be cut at 20". Everything else is correct. This pattern has been tested.

In some patterns, the arc templates for paper piecing, page 9 of the pattern, are incorrect. My only guess as to how this happened is due to my Laptop, PowerPoint, and printer upgrade. My original pattern document I printed from to make these arcs is correct and I have changed nothing other than the PC, SW and printer.
Please forgive me, I am truly sorry for the difficulties this causes. There should be no waste of fabric or recutting, as the templates for cutting the arc pieces are correct. The foundation paper pieces on page 9 are the only problem. If you will please e-mail me at rosecottagequilts@yahoo.com, with your name and address, I will send you the corrected page.
An adjustment will also need to be made to the instructions on Page 2 going from step 14 to 15. The picture in the middle shows the stitching line across the bottom. This is incorrect. It should be at the right, stitching the blue triangle to the light triangle underneath. See the corrected picture below.

Page 3 - I should have included a statement advising you that these Nine Patch Border Blocks will "Finish" at 8". This is the reason for the 16th of an inch measurements. When you have sewn your nine patches together, the unfinished size of your block, including seam allowances will measure 8 1/2". Once you sew it into your border it will "Finish" at 8". I also failed to include a very important statement. After you have made all your half square triangle units in steps 1-3, Square Up all of these units to measure 3 3/16"
Please contact me if you have any questions or additional problems as I certainly want to make things right. My heart's desire is to be a blessing and never to bring you difficulties.
Bless you,
