Lots of busyness this week, quilt related, just not much on my wall.  I did get to work on a new little wool project that will be offered as a guild workshop.  It is a little Needle Nest.  As you can see, I'm almost finished with the front.  Then I will stitch a piece of coordinating fabric to the inside to cover the stitches.  It will also include a pocket.  There will also be two padded pages for storing needles.  I use one for my applique and just love it.  I can store my many colored threaded needles for future use.  No thread wasted and time saved.  It works great!

I use the different sides of these pages to store the many different sized needles that I use for applique, binding, back basting, wool applique, and embroidery.  This makes it so easy to distinguish which needle I want.  Yes, I am an organizer and I just love little time saving tricks.

The white wool piece on the left is a pocket.  There is another like this at the back.  You can open up the two green pages to reveal my threaded applique needles.  I'm having trouble loading pictures this morning, so you'll have to picture it from my description.

Wishing each of you many blessings and happy stitches this week!

Quilt Camp is so much fun and a great way to spend a concentrated amont of time to make great progress on a project.  I finally got to work on my Paper Pieced Sampler and I'm so happy with the way it is coming along.  I'm hoping to teach classes on this in the near future.  The blocks are from Alex Anderson's book.

Then I had great fun picking fabrics for my Bali Wedding Star.  I cut 46 pieces of fabric to go with at least 50 of my own for this project.  I can't wait to get started.  Here is a picture of my fabrics along with what the quilt will eventually look like.

Aren't they luscious!!!

I will make a few color changes in mine.  Where their's has more rusty colors, mine will have more raspberry to rose colors.  I saw a sample of this made up in Manhattan, KS and it was just stunning.  I had to get the pattern so I could make one of my own.

There is one more porject I have been able to work on this week.  It's a memory quilt that was inspired while viewing quilts in a small museum in Ulysses, KS.  Here is a picture of the museum quilt that mine will be patterned after.  I've made up several blocks to begin handing out to special people in my life whose name I want included in my quilt.  I will probably embroider some Scripture in squares to be included as well.

Doesn't this look fun?  And it's so simple.  I can't wait to begin receiving embroidered blocks back from my family and friends.

Wishing you all many happy and blessed stitching times this week and that all your days be sunny and fun.

Bless you,
Deanna at Rose Cottage

Hello and Happy Stitches to you.  There for a bit I thought I wouldn't have anything to show this week.  Then I found some time and got to get the binding finished on a graduation quilt for my neice.  Just in the nick of time too.  She graduates the 25th of January.  I used the Fire Escape pattern, it is so fun and easy.  Her room colors now are black and white, so I had lots of fun with this one.  See what you think.

Then I got time and inspiration to work on another interesting project.  We have a chapter of The Applique Society (TAS) at the quilt shop where I work.  We are starting a new swap project.  We each start with a background block no larger than 45" square, with the beginnings of an idea appliqued to it.  Every other month our block will be passed to another member who will add an applique item to your project.  She could also add borders, etc.  It is all open to each appliquer's inspiration.  Below is a picture of my beginnings.  While others are appliqueing on mine, I will be working on theirs.  It's lots of fun and the results are most always quite amazing.

These are lace pieces I've picked up and always wanted to use.  I thought this might be the perfect time.  I love the oval shape they make and the elegance they add to the design.  The vase is only paper at this time.  I needed to see how big it should be.  The scroll on the vase is where I will do some twilling to give my vase some decoration.  I will leave the top of the vase unstitched so my TAS Friends will be able to tuck in some stems.

Well, that's it for me.  I hope you all have a most blessed week!
Blessings from Deanna at Rose Cottage
